Is My Bike Suitable?

Here we will identified what to check on your bike for each type of kit, and also some general advice about what will and won't fit. If you're still not sure please contact us for further guidance.

Fitting a Front Hub Kit

    • The gap between the dropouts, where the wheel fits into the forks, needs to be 100mm
    • A square taper bottom bracket is required to fit the pedal assistance sensor
    • The frame needs to be alloy or steel
    • V brakes/Calliper brakes and Disc brakes are all fine. Note that with disc brakes, compression fit rotors aren't compatible and a 6 pin fixing rotor will be required

Fitting a Rear Hub Kit
    • The gap between the dropouts, where the wheel fits into the bike, needs to be 135mm
    • Flat bars are required to fit the LED pedal assistance display. The LCD display will fit both flat bars and drop bars

    • 250w rear motors only: The motor wheels are cassette fitting which takes 7 speed cassettes and above. If you have a freewheel gear fitted then this will need to be changed to a cassette type
    • 500w/1000w rear motors only: The motor wheels are freewheel fitting and a maximum of 7 gears can be fitted. It is not possible to fit 9 speed or above with a 500w/1000w motor.

Pedal Assist Sensor Fitting
When fitting the pedal assistance sensor with a hub kit you don't have to remove the cranks or bottom bracket from the bike. The sensors are designed for DIY fitting. If you're a competent bike mechanic and would prefer to fit the professional style sensor, meaning that the cranks would need to be removed, then please let us know at the point of ordering and we'll include a different style sensor.

Fitting a Crank Motor kit
    • The bottom bracket shell size needs to be 68mm or 73mm
    • The frame needs to be alloy or steel
    • V brakes/Calliper brakes and Disc brakes are all fine

    • A standard bottom bracket diameter is required (not eccentric)

Bikes with Integrated Brake Levers and Gear Shifters
The kits are supplied with replacement brake levers that automatically cut the power of the motor when applied. The vast majority of cable brake bikes have integrated gear shifters which means that these replacement brake levers can't be fitted without swapping the shifters. Whilst we would recommend fitting the replacement brake levers it isn't necessarily essential as, when fitting the pedal assist system, when you stop pedalling the motor will stop anyway. So, providing you're not pedalling and braking at the same time, not fitting the replacement levers doesn't cause an issue.

Bikes with Hydraulic Brakes
The kits are supplied with replacement brake levers that automatically cut the power of the motor when applied. If you have hydraulic brakes then the replacement levers aren't compatible.

Ladies bikes, step through bikes and bikes with small frames
With step through bikes, ladies frame bikes and small frames it's only possible to fit a pannier type battery. Frame mounted batteries aren't suitable

Bikes with External Bottom Brackets
If your bike has a HollowTech/external bottom bracket then we have a type of PAS sensor that will fit these. Simply let us know when ordering and we will send out the correct type.

Full Suspension Bikes
It can be difficult to fit the battery onto the frame of most full suspension bikes but it can be done. We do not recommend putting a pannier rack on a full suspension bike so check with us first and we will see if we can find a kit that will fit.

Bikes with Hub gears
If your bike has hub gears then it's not possible to fit a rear wheel kit. A mid-crank or front wheel kit will be fine.
